Russian fashion designer Gosha Rubchinsky announced on Friday that he is terminating his collaboration with Yeezy, the brand founded by Ye, previously known as Kanye West. This decision follows antisemitic comments made on the rapper's account on X, where he openly stated his admiration for Adolf Hitler and identified himself as a Nazi.
In a statement on Instagram, Rubchinsky expressed gratitude to Ye and the Yeezy team for their partnership but confirmed that their December collection, “Herald of the Tribes,” would be their final collaboration.
In a series of antisemitic messages shared on Friday, the rapper boldly declared, “I love Hitler,” and claimed to be a Nazi. His remarks have drawn considerable backlash from numerous rights groups and Jewish organizations that have condemned his antisemitic rhetoric.
Ye is known for his public expressions of anti-Semitic views and has previously engaged in hate-filled tweeting sprees, landing him in various controversies. During a 2022 interview with right-wing commentator Alex Jones on his InfoWars show, Ye stated he sees “good things about Hitler.” Following that discussion, he posted an image of a swastika merged with a Star of David on Twitter, which resulted in his suspension from the platform. About a year after this scandal, he issued an apology in Hebrew for his actions.
Ye, a 24-time Grammy Award winner, was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2016 and has discussed his mental health struggles. Recently, he also disclosed that he has been diagnosed with autism.
Adidas, which had a long-standing partnership with Ye, ended its relationship with him in October 2022 in response to his antisemitic remarks, leading to the discontinuation of the Yeezy sneaker line. However, Rubchinsky continued his collaboration with Ye, taking on the role of Yeezy’s head of design in December 2023.
Rubchinsky is a prominent menswear designer known for his influences from skateboarding, Russian youth culture, and Western pop culture. He launched his label in 2008 and quickly became a pivotal figure in Russian fashion, alongside Georgian designer Demna Gvasalia, co-founder of Vetements and current creative director of Balenciaga. Rubchinsky has also partnered with renowned brands like Burberry and Adidas.
Their collaboration led to the launch of the “Black Dogs” collection in March 2024, featuring hoodies, t-shirts, joggers, and socks emblazoned with the phrase “Black Dogs” in Russian. These items were available for purchase on the Yeezy website for $20 each. Prior to the split, Ye praised Rubchinsky’s work in an interview with Hypebeast, calling his clothing “a dream come true.”
