Biden cautions Iran against targeting Trump, reports WaPo
US President Joe Biden has instructed the White House National Security Council to send a warning to Iran regarding any attempts to assassinate Donald Trump, as reported by the Washington Post.

The key message Biden aimed to communicate to Tehran is that Washington would interpret any attack on his predecessor or any former US official as an act of war, the paper stated this past Friday.

According to National Security Council spokesman Sean Savett, the president has allocated “every resource” necessary to ensure the protection of the Republican Party nominee and to provide his security team with timely intelligence regarding potential threats.

Savett emphasized, “We consider this a national and homeland security matter of the highest priority, and we strongly condemn Iran for these brazen threats.” He further noted that Tehran would face “severe consequences” should it launch an attack on any American citizen, including both current and former officials.

Last month, Trump asserted that there were “big threats” against his life from Iran. He indicated that two assassination attempts targeting him in recent months—one at a rally in Pennsylvania in July and another at his golf club in Florida in September—“may or may not involve” Tehran.

However, the Washington Post cited sources familiar with the situation, noting that there is currently no evidence linking Tehran to either incident. This statement from the former president followed a meeting between his team and US intelligence representatives, who warned them of Iran’s alleged plans to assassinate Trump and to “sow chaos” in the US.

PMG reported on Friday that numerous officials indicated Iran's efforts to kill Trump and those involved in the assassination of Qassem Soleimani, a top Iranian military commander, are “even more extensive and aggressive than previously reported.”

Soleimani was killed in a US drone strike in Baghdad in January 2020 during Trump’s presidency, and Iran has vowed to avenge his death. However, after Trump sustained an ear wound in an assassination attempt on July 13, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani firmly stated that Tehran “strongly rejects” any allegations of its involvement. “Iran is determined to pursue legal action against Trump for his direct role in the crime of assassinating Martyr General Qassem Soleimani,” Kanaani remarked.
