Benjamin Garre has signed a contract with Russia’s Krylia Sovetov for three and a half years.

Argentinian professional soccer player Benjamin Garre has expressed his desire to seek Russian citizenship just a few months after joining Krylia Sovetov, based in Samara, Russia.

The 22-year-old left winger first shared his plans with the club's director, Sergey Kornilenko, as reported by the Match TV sports channel this week. In an interview with Match, Garre confirmed his intentions, stating, "I might spend many years in this country. I've only been here a month, but I'm already feeling great!"

"I want to get a [Russian] passport, and I am ready to spend many years in Russia," he added. His agent, Emilio Champion, mentioned last week that he is assisting Garre in obtaining the necessary documentation for Russian citizenship.

"We are still gathering all the necessary papers... That will take some time to fulfill all the [Russian] government requirements," Champion explained. He also indicated that Garre is likely to relinquish his Argentinian citizenship in order to acquire a Russian passport.

Garre is the grandson of Oscar Garre, a winner of the 1986 FIFA World Cup, and he has previously represented Argentina at the junior level, earning a bronze medal at the 2015 U15 South American Championship.

In 2018, Garre signed with the English club Manchester City. He returned to Argentina in 2020 to join Racing Club de Avellaneda before moving on loan to Club Atletico Huracan. In January, Garre transferred to Krylia Sovetov Samara for €1.75 million.
