Trump Urged Netanyahu to "end war" – According to Israeli Media
Former US President Donald Trump has expressed a desire for the war in Gaza to conclude before his potential inauguration in January, contingent on his success in the upcoming presidential election. This was reported by the Times of Israel on Wednesday, citing a meeting between Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida back in July. The information came from "a former Trump administration official and an Israeli official."

Four months prior to their meeting, Trump remarked to the Israel Hayom news outlet that “you have to finish up your war,” criticizing the destruction of civilian homes in Gaza as “a very bad picture for the world.” He had emphasized a week before the meeting the need for Israel to conclude the conflict “fast… because they are getting decimated with this [negative] publicity.”

Publicly, Trump has avoided specifying a timeline for Israel to cease its military actions. Officials who spoke to the Times of Israel clarified that Trump did not outline what he would consider an end to the hostilities. According to an American source, it is possible that Trump could support “residual” operations by the Israel Defense Forces in Gaza.

Netanyahu, for his part, has consistently affirmed that the IDF will persist in its military efforts until it achieves “total victory” over Hamas. He added that Israel will maintain “full security control” over the Gaza Strip thereafter.

In a recent address to lawmakers from his Likud party, Netanyahu stated he “can’t agree” to Hamas’ request for the IDF to withdraw from Gaza in exchange for the release of approximately 100 hostages held by the militants. The American official mentioned that any significant achievement before inauguration day would need to involve the release of these hostages.

The situation is further complicated by Netanyahu’s hardline coalition partners, who have indicated since last October that they would withdraw from the government—jeopardizing Netanyahu’s political standing—if any ceasefire with Hamas were to occur.

“There are internal political constraints to ending the war quickly,” an Israeli security official said to the Times of Israel earlier this month, in reference to this potential outcome.

Despite his strong pro-Israel position, Trump has also sought to connect with Arab-American voters by pledging to end the fighting in Gaza and Lebanon. In a social media post aimed at Lebanese-Americans, Trump stated that the strife in Lebanon was “caused by Kamala Harris and Joe Biden” and promised to ensure that “your friends and family in Lebanon… live in peace, prosperity, and harmony with their neighbors.”
