Trump initiates ‘powerful military action’ against Houthis
US President Donald Trump has declared a military operation targeting Yemeni-based Houthi militants, urging them to cease their attacks on ships. .

On Saturday, President Donald Trump announced the initiation of a significant military operation against the Houthi militants based in Yemen. He stated that the operation includes airstrikes targeting their “bases, leaders, and missile defenses,” with the objective of restoring freedom of navigation in the surrounding waters.
In a statement shared on Truth Social, Trump accused the Houthis of conducting an “unrelenting campaign of piracy, violence, and terrorism against American, and other, ships, aircraft, and drones.”
The president asserted that the militants have been obstructing international commercial navigation in the Suez Canal, the Red Sea, and the Gulf of Aden.
“It has been over a year since a U.S. flagged commercial ship safely sailed,” Trump noted, insisting that the Houthis must halt their attacks. He warned, “If they don’t, hell will rain down upon [the militants] like nothing you have ever seen before.”
U.S. Central Command launched a series of operations on March 15, including precision strikes against Iran-backed Houthi targets in Yemen, aimed at defending American interests and deterring adversaries.
The president also issued a stern warning to Iran, urging the nation to stop supporting the Yemeni group and to refrain from “threatening” the US. Trump stated, “Support for the Houthi terrorist must end immediately,” and declared that the US would hold Iran “fully accountable and, we won’t be nice about it.”
Tehran has not yet responded to the situation.
The Ansar Allah movement, known as the Houthis, has maintained control over significant portions of Yemen since the mid-2010s. This Iran-backed Shia group has targeted merchant vessels and launched ballistic missiles at Israel in response to the ongoing war in Gaza. The US, UK, and Israel have retaliated by bombing military sites and infrastructure linked to the Houthis in Yemen.
In January, the Trump administration redesignated the Houthis as a terrorist organization, citing that the group had launched “dozens of” missile strikes against US warships and had fired “more than 300 projectiles” at Israel since 2023, according to an executive order signed by Trump.
