At a rally in Butler on Saturday, Trump criticized the current state of international standing, stating that the country has become a laughing stock. This event marked his return to a location where he survived an assassination attempt in July.
The Republican nominee promised to improve the US economy, address violent crime, and tighten control over illegal immigration at the southern border. “Everything has to be the best,” he stated. “We have to have the best schools. We have to have strong borders. We don’t want bad people coming in and hurting us.”
He emphasized the need for America to regain its former stature, saying, “You deserve a nation that builds things again, makes things better, that aims for the stars once more, and that once again, commands respect, and we want to get respect like we had it four years ago.”
Trump lamented the current international perception: “The entire world respected us. They respected us. They respected us more than they’ve ever respected us, and now they laugh at us. We can’t have them laugh at us.”
Throughout his campaign, Trump has criticized what he describes as the “weak” administration of President Joe Biden and Democratic nominee Kamala Harris, blaming them for damaging America’s reputation. He asserted that conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza would not have occurred had he been in office.
Trump also claimed to have established positive relationships with various world leaders, including Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping, and expressed confidence that he could swiftly resolve the Russia-Ukraine conflict if re-elected in November.
Biden and Harris, conversely, have accused Trump of undermining NATO and failing to confront Russia effectively. “Our NATO allies are so thankful that you are no longer president,” Harris told Trump during a televised debate last month.
