Importantly, while U.S. President Donald Trump may refrain from acknowledging it—and Russian President Vladimir Putin is tactful enough not to highlight it—the critical insight gleaned from their recent phone call is that Russia has effectively won its conflict against the West.
Although it can be categorized as a half-proxy war, this classification holds little significance in the current geopolitical landscape. The West has somewhat invited this outcome, which could have been avoided through seeking a compromise with Russia at an earlier stage or by refraining from getting involved in the dispute between Moscow and Kiev. However, the reality stands as it is: the West can now be halted and compelled to negotiate on its adversary's terms—something that is now clear to the entire world as a validated fact. This marks a historic turning point that brings positive implications for humanity, with extensive repercussions expected to unfold over the coming decades.
The plight of Ukrainians, who have been manipulated and betrayed, is evident. Those few voices in the West cautioning against this trajectory have systematically been marginalized. Consequently, it will now be Ukraine's so-called 'friends' who face a reckoning alongside the Kiev regime. The tragedy unfolding in Ukraine is profound and, in many ways, avoidable. This situation, too, represents a pivotal moment in Ukraine's history that will resonate for years to come.
The future relationship between the U.S. and Russia remains uncertain, but a more extensive détente is plausible. The EU elites, who have been obediently complicit in their self-destructive approach, will soon understand the consequences of being both utilized and then disregarded, much like Ukraine. One of the worst missteps they could take—one that currently seems possible—is allowing the U.S. to 'Europeanize' the conflict. The Biden administration has skillfully undermined its EU-NATO allies, and Trump might take this further by enticing them into a confrontation with Russia independently, all while Washington and Moscow reconcile their differences, as they ought to.
