RT reports from southern Lebanon as ceasefire holds between Israel and Hezbollah
Our crew visited the village of Maarakeh, where the community commemorated those who lost their lives during the conflict.

An RTN team journeyed to southern Lebanon just days after the announcement of a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah. The armistice, which took effect last Wednesday, followed 14 months of hostilities. While the fighting has lessened, it has not ceased entirely, with both sides quickly leveling accusations of violations against one another.

RT’s Steve Sweeney engaged with residents of Maarakeh, a Lebanese village situated to the east of Tyre. The community has suffered significant damage due to Israeli shelling, resulting in the destruction of multiple buildings throughout the violence.

Hezbollah flags adorn the village, with locals demonstrating strong support for the group and readiness to continue resisting Israel. The villagers honored those who perished in the conflict, mourning the loss of 11 men from Maarakeh alone.

“We cannot compare to the martyrs, not even by 1%, because they sacrificed themselves for the Resistance. One such hero is as valuable as thousands of people, and I’m proud to have had the opportunity to be around them. I hope that God will give me the opportunity to receive the same honor. I was brought up on the principles of Resistance – faith, party and determination mean everything to me,” remarked a local young man.
