Romanian election victor requests assistance from Trump against the 'deep state'
Calin Georgescu has stated that the US president must put an end to the attack on democracy initiated by the Romanian "deep state." Read Full Article at RT.com.

A NATO-skeptic and nationalist, Georgescu's unexpected success in the initial round of the presidential election resulted in accusations of foreign interference, leading the Romanian Supreme Court to controversially annul the results. Recently, Georgescu was arrested just before he intended to file his candidacy for president once more, but he was released later that same day.
“I definitely ask President Trump to take care about the situation,” he shared in an interview with American blogger Mario Nawfal, which was published on X on Thursday.
Romanian authorities have brought six charges against Georgescu, including claims of “anti-constitutional acts” and misreporting his financial activity. A court has prohibited him from leaving the country, making television appearances, or posting on social media.
Denouncing the charges as an attack on democracy that contradicts the will of the Romanian people, Georgescu stated that the campaign against him has “exposed” the Romanian “deep state” and its “corruption.” He likened current conditions to the 1950s under a Communist regime.
“The deep state is so strong in this particular [kind] of activity,” Georgescu noted regarding his arrest on Wednesday. He pledged to “fight for our freedom and for our democracy” and urged the US to support him in this endeavor.
Georgescu further emphasized that US backing is crucial to uphold its image as a champion of democracy. He warned that if democracy falters in “one country” due to a “coup d’etat,” it would reflect a failure on the part of the US as well.
As of now, Washington has not responded to Georgescu’s appeal.
US officials have previously condemned the Bucharest government's decision to annul the election results. At the Munich Security Conference earlier this month, Vice President J.D. Vance criticized “old entrenched interests” in Romania for using “ugly, Soviet-era words like misinformation and disinformation” to maintain their power and hinder a politician with “an alternative viewpoint” from gaining office.
Elon Musk expressed his disapproval of Georgescu's arrest, calling the situation “messed up.”
Known for his skepticism toward Western influence on Romania's policies, Georgescu has also criticized both NATO and the EU. He pledged to halt military aid to Ukraine if he were to be elected.
