Qin Haiyang Captures First Gold of 2025 at National Spring Championships
At China's National Spring Swimming Championships in Qingdao, located in east China's Shandong Province, Shanghai's Qin Haiyang clinched the gold in the men's 100-meter breaststroke final on Thursday.

Just over six months have passed since Qin played a pivotal role in China's victory in the men's 4×100-meter medley at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics. During the qualifiers in Qingdao, he dominated with a time of 58.61 seconds, ultimately finishing the final slightly slower at 58.66 seconds. Hubei’s Sun Jiajun secured the silver medal, while Dong Zhihao from Jiangsu took home the bronze.

"I should have been faster in the final than in the morning qualifiers, but I have not competed at big events for a long time, as it is about six months after the Paris Olympics, and I am still finding my form," Qin noted.

In other events, Shandong's Zhang Zhanshuo, a teenager, won the men's 200-meter butterfly title with a time of 1:56.60, edging out Xu Yizhou from Zhejiang who finished second, while Hubei’s Wang Baojun came in third.

In the men's 200-meter freestyle, Shandong's Ji Xinjie clocked in at 1:46.76 to take first place, followed by He Yubo of Hebei in second and Xu Haibo of Hubei in third.

Guangdong’s Lin Tao emerged victorious in the men's 50-meter backstroke final, finishing at 25.22 seconds. He narrowly beat Jiang Chenglin of Shanxi and Heilongjiang's Wang Gukailai, who both tied for the runner-up position.

In the women's events, Wu Qingfeng from Zhejiang topped the podium in the 50-meter freestyle with a time of 24.44 seconds, finishing ahead of Jiangxi’s Cheng Yuijie and Liu Shuhan from Shanxi who came in third.

Peng Xuwei from Hubei led the women's 200-meter backstroke final, touching the wall in 2:06.54, outpacing Liu Yaxi from Zhejiang and Li Wanwei of Guangdong.

Lastly, 19-year-old Yu Yiting claimed the gold medal in the women's 400-meter individual medley, completing the race in 2:10.73, surpassing fellow Zhejiang swimmer Liu and Hubei’s Ke Wenxi.
