North Korea Claims to Have ‘Clear Evidence’ of South's Involvement in Drone Provocation
Kim Yo-jong, a high-ranking official and the sister of North Korea's leader, has issued a warning to Seoul, stating that it "will have to pay a dear price."

She has asserted that Pyongyang possesses evidence indicating that Seoul was involved in the recent launches of multiple drones over North Korea earlier this month. The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) claimed on Friday that there had been several instances—specifically on October 3, 9, and 10—when unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) reportedly dropped propaganda leaflets over the capital of North Korea.

In a response to what it considers provocations from Seoul, North Korea's military took action on Monday, demolishing sections of roads leading to South Korea, effectively severing links between the two nations. South Korean Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun remarked that he could neither confirm nor deny the allegations made by the North.

In a statement released by the Korean Central News Agency on Tuesday, Kim Yo-jong declared: “We secured clear evidence that the ROK military gangsters are the main culprit of the hostile provocation of violating the sovereignty of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea by intruding into the sky over its capital city.” She further threatened that the “provocateurs will have to pay a dear price.”

During a security meeting on Monday, Kim Jong Un instructed the military to enhance deterrence measures in light of the alleged aerial incursions by the South, as reported by KCNA.

Following the weekend, North Korea’s Defense Ministry claimed that Seoul was likely to make further drone incursions soon. In response, observation posts in Pyongyang have been reinforced. A representative from the ministry described the drone launches as an “undeniable war provocation,” emphasizing that the type of UAV used could not be managed by civilian operators and necessitated a launcher or runway.

The ministry's statement cautioned that a “war may break out any moment” on the Korean peninsula due to the “reckless” actions of the South Korean military. The DPRK military highlighted that artillery units along the border with the South have been placed on high alert.

Regarding the escalating tensions between Seoul and Pyongyang, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova condemned the “unprecedented drone attack” on Pyongyang. She remarked, “Such actions on the part of Seoul cannot be viewed as anything but a gross encroachment on the DPRK’s sovereignty,” and urged South Korea to heed the warnings issued by the North.
