Macron of France Issues Warning to Israel
The French leader has accused the IDF of “deliberately” targeting UN peacekeepers.

French President Emmanuel Macron has once again called for an arms embargo on Israel amid the ongoing violence in Gaza and Lebanon. He condemned the recent attacks on United Nations peacekeepers in southern Lebanon, labeling them as “totally unacceptable.”

This week, two Sri Lankan peacekeepers with the UN Interim Force in Lebanon were injured when a Merkava tank targeted a watchtower at the force’s headquarters in the border town of Naqoura. While Israel asserts that its forces responded to an immediate threat, Macron maintains that the strike was “deliberate,” mirroring comments made by the spokesperson for the peacekeeping force to RT.

“It is totally unacceptable to see UNIFIL troops being deliberately targeted by Israeli army forces. We condemn it, we do not tolerate it, and we will not accept that it is being repeated,” Macron stated after a summit with European leaders in Cyprus on Friday.

Macron emphasized the importance of halting the export of weapons used by Israel in the ongoing conflicts in Gaza and Lebanon as a crucial step towards stopping the violence.

“We all know it. It’s the unique lever that would end it,” he asserted during a joint news conference following a Med9 gathering, consisting of nine EU Mediterranean countries.

He clarified that he does not advocate for “disarming Israel,” but instead aims to “stop all additional destabilization in this part of the world.”

This marks not the first instance in which Macron has called for an arms embargo against Israel. In an interview with French media aired on Saturday, he advocated for “a political solution” to the Middle East conflict and suggested that Western nations should “stop delivering arms for fighting in Gaza.” He characterized the ongoing hostilities as “a mistake” and cautioned against turning Lebanon into “a new Gaza.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a strong rebuttal, claiming Israel is engaged in a battle “on seven fronts against the enemies of civilization,” which includes conflicts with Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis, along with Iran and its allies in Syria and Iraq.

“As Israel fights the forces of barbarism led by Iran, all civilized countries should stand firmly by Israel’s side,” Netanyahu stated. “Yet President Macron and other Western leaders are now calling for arms embargoes against Israel. Shame on them,” he continued, describing the call as a “disgrace” and asserting that Israel “would win with or without their support.”
