US President Donald Trump is anticipating up to trillions of dollars in tariff revenue from companies that manufacture their products outside the United States, as he stated during his remarks at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2025 in Davos.

In contrast, companies that produce goods within the US will see advantages from a reduced corporate tax rate of 15 percent, compared to the current rate of 21 percent, according to Trump's comments.

Speaking at the forum virtually, he expressed criticism toward the European Union, claiming that it hinders US products from entering its market due to high tariffs and burdensome, lengthy regulations.

Throughout various sessions, global leaders, institutional representatives, and industry leaders discussed the potential effects of Trump's tariff strategies on the international economy.

Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Director-General of the World Trade Organization, cautioned that a tariff war brings no advantages to anyone, warning that if the world engages in tit-for-tat retaliation, whether through a 25 percent or 60 percent tariff, it could lead to a regression to the 1930s, resulting in double-digit global GDP losses that would be disastrous.

European Commissioner for Economy and Productivity Valdis Dombrovskis argued that raising tariffs is not the appropriate measure for addressing economic or national security issues, suggesting instead that the US President should prioritize addressing economic inequality.

Furthermore, European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde mentioned to CNBC that Europe must "be prepared" and brace for the potential trade tariffs that could emerge under the recently inaugurated US President Trump.
