Israel shoots down Houthi ballistic missile
Yemeni militants have targeted the country’s airport following the collapse of the ceasefire in Gaza.

The Israel Defense Forces confirmed that they intercepted a ballistic missile launched by Yemen’s Houthi rebels. Israeli media noted that this marked the first such attack in the past two months.

“The missile was intercepted before crossing into the country’s territory. Sirens were activated in accordance with protocol,” the IDF stated on X early Thursday morning.

Ameen Hayyan, a military spokesman for the Houthis, indicated that the missile was aimed at Ben Gurion International Airport.

The Houthis control a significant portion of western Yemen, including the capital, Sanaa. The group has been conducting attacks on international shipping and firing missiles at Israel as retaliation for the IDF’s operations against Hamas in Gaza.

Over the weekend, U.S. President Donald Trump ordered a series of airstrikes and cruise missile strikes targeting Houthi sites. On Wednesday, he warned that the group “will be completely annihilated.”

Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, the militants' leader, pledged to continue their offensive in support of the Palestinians. “We will do everything we can against the Israeli enemy and to support the Palestinian people. We will confront any American support [for Israel] that will involve targeting our country,” he remarked, as reported by the news website The New Arab.

The ceasefire between Hamas and Israel unraveled this week when the two sides could not come to an agreement regarding the next phase of the truce. The IDF resumed airstrikes on Gaza on Tuesday and has since continued its ground offensive, capturing the Netzarim Corridor just south of Gaza City.
