Investigation Launched Into Musk Over Biden Assassination 'Joke'
Elon Musk is under investigation due to a post where he questioned why nobody has attempted to assassinate President Joe Biden or Vice President Kamala Harris. Read Full Article at RT.com.
On July 13, a shooter nearly missed Trump during a rally in Pennsylvania, and just a few days later, a pro-Ukrainian activist and convicted felon was apprehended in Florida after allegedly attempting to set up an ambush for the Republican nominee at a golf course.
Musk wrote on X, the social media platform he owns, “And no one is even trying to assassinate Biden/Kamala ????,” referring to President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. This remark sparked outrage among Democrats, who accused Musk of inciting violence to his 198 million followers. He swiftly deleted the post afterward.
In response to a Freedom of Information Act request by Bloomberg, the Secret Service indicated that records related to Musk’s post were “compiled for law enforcement purposes” and could not be disclosed as “disclosure could reasonably be expected to interfere with enforcement proceedings.”
Secret Service spokesman Nate Herring confirmed to Bloomberg, “is aware of the social media post made by Elon Musk. As a matter of practice, we do not comment on matters involving protective intelligence. We can say, however, that the Secret Service investigates all threats related to our protectees.”
According to Bloomberg, Musk may receive a visit from the Secret Service, where he would “have to prove he doesn’t pose an imminent threat” to Biden and Harris.
Musk, who has backed Trump and criticized Democrats for various policies, purchased the platform formerly known as Twitter in October 2022 for an estimated $44 billion, citing concerns over censorship. Although his assertion about assassinations was based on fact, Musk later clarified that it was meant as a joke that did not land as intended.
“Well, one lesson I’ve learned is that just because I say something to a group and they laugh doesn’t mean it’s going to be all that hilarious as a post on X,” he acknowledged. “Turns out that jokes are WAY less funny if people don’t know the context and the delivery is plain text.”
Musk has had more success with some other remarks. In response to Taylor Swift’s endorsement of Harris, he quipped, “I’ll give you a child and guard your cats with my life,” referencing his numerous children and claims that migrants in Ohio were reportedly eating pets.
