French MEP Says, "Macron must go"
Thierry Mariani discussed the political crisis in France and the influence of the French president in this situation during an interview with RT. Read Full Article at RT.com.
Mariani, a Member of the European Parliament, stated that French President Emmanuel Macron ought to resign if he values his self-respect and truly wishes to benefit the nation.
This week, Macron accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Michel Barnier, who lost his position following a parliamentary vote of no confidence. Macron appointed Barnier in September, despite his party's defeat in a snap general election earlier in the summer.
The recent vote of no confidence marks the third occasion this year in which a French prime minister has been ousted. “Little by little, all the French realize that the solution for this situation is not changing the prime minister,” Mariani noted.
He further emphasized, “The only problem is the president himself.” Mariani, who identifies as an independent lawmaker and has experience as a member of the French national parliament and in Nicolas Sarkozy’s cabinet, shared his views with RT.
In response to mounting pressure, Macron has asserted that he intends to remain in office until the end of his term in 2027. Mariani commented that there is little the parliament can do to oust him. However, he referenced historical examples that suggest an early resignation may be warranted, such as Charles de Gaulle, who stepped down after a political reform he proposed was rejected in a 1958 referendum.
“If Emmanuel Macron wants to serve France best, he should resign,” Mariani urged. “If he has just a little respect for himself, he should go.”
