FBI Conducts Search at Home of Soviet-Born Critic of Biden in the US
The family of Dimitri Simes has alleged that they are facing intimidation from the government, according to statements made by his son.

The FBI executed a search warrant at the residence of Russian-born U.S. political commentator and author Dimitri Simes, known for his outspoken criticism of President Joe Biden's administration.

The search occurred on Tuesday at the property located in Rappahannock County, as reported by a local news source.

In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), Simes' son, Dimitri Simes Jr., characterized the action as “a bandit-like intimidation attempt” by the U.S. government.

FBI spokesperson Samantha Shero stated in an email on Wednesday night that she could not comment on the raid other than to confirm it had been authorized by a court, according to Rappahannock News.

Dimitri Simes, a naturalized U.S. citizen who immigrated in 1973 and previously served as an aide to Richard Nixon, has been portrayed in U.S. media as someone providing “a sympathetic platform for the Russian government in the heart of the DC policy establishment.” This reputation was solidified in 2014 when Senator Rand Paul named him as a foreign policy adviser.

In 1999, Simes published a book discussing Russia’s quest for a new global position following the USSR’s collapse. He also held the roles of publisher and CEO for the National Interest magazine, which promotes a realist perspective in international relations and geopolitics.

Simes was among those investigated by Special Counsel Robert Mueller regarding potential connections between Donald Trump and the Russian government. The finalized report in 2019 did not uncover any evidence of collusion between Moscow and Trump's 2016 campaign, indicating that Simes' activities were typical within the context of Washington, D.C.

The Simes family owns a 132.6-acre property in Rappahannock County, which they purchased in 2021 for $1.63 million.
