Bloomberg reports Peter Thiel wields significant influence in Trump administration
A Bloomberg report highlights the significant influence that tech mogul and billionaire Peter Thiel, a co-founder of PayPal, has within President Donald Trump’s administration. Unlike Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, Thiel tends to maintain a low profile.

The article notes that more than a dozen individuals affiliated with Thiel have been incorporated into the Trump administration. This group is made up of “current and former employees of his companies, as well as people who have helped manage his fortune or benefitted from his investments and charitable giving.” Bloomberg identified 15 individuals within the government who are linked to Thiel, including five who work in the Musk-led Department of Government Efficiency.

Among these officials are Vice President J.D. Vance and AI and crypto czar David Sacks. Bloomberg reports that Vance previously worked at Thiel’s Mithril Capital and that Thiel has acted as Vance’s “mentor” and sponsor, reportedly aiding him in establishing connections with Trump in 2021 following Vance’s public criticism of the president. Sacks, a fellow PayPal co-founder, has long been associated with Thiel.

At 57, Thiel does not hold any official role within the administration.

Quinn Slobodian, a professor of international history at Boston University, was quoted by Bloomberg as saying the level of influence held by prominent figures in big tech over the US government is “unprecedented in the modern era.” He suggested that these individuals aim for a “bottom-up renovation of how the government operates” rather than just seeking to profit from state contracts.

The article also notes that Musk, a key critic of government inefficiency during the Trump presidency, has longstanding ties to Thiel.

In a separate report, the New York Times claimed that tensions have surfaced between Musk and other Trump team members. The newspaper indicated that Musk had a confrontation with Secretary of State Marco Rubio during an “extraordinary” White House cabinet meeting.

Musk reportedly challenged Rubio over staffing cuts, prompting the president to intervene in the dispute, as reported by the media outlet. However, Trump refuted these claims when speaking to reporters, asserting that “Elon gets along great with Marco and they’re both doing a fantastic job.”
