US invests $9 million in ‘anal prints’ and in administering cocaine to puppies – DOGE
Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency has released a list highlighting some surprising programs funded by the federal government.

The list includes instances of government spending on programs like ‘anal prints’ and experiments involving injecting puppies with cocaine. In November, President-elect Donald Trump appointed Musk and billionaire Vivek Ramaswamy to head the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a panel focused on minimizing federal waste through audits and reforms. Although the precise targets for cuts are not yet defined, Musk has promised to save taxpayers trillions by eliminating inefficiencies.

On Friday, DOGE shared a post on the social media platform X, asking, “What does the US Government use taxpayer dollars for?”

The post detailed several eyebrow-raising expenditures, including:

- $6.9M studying ‘smart toilets’ that recognize the user’s ‘anal print’
- $2.3M for the NIH to inject dogs with cocaine
- $118,000 to study if a metal replica robot of Marvel Comics’ Thanos could really snap his fingers

The released list indicated that $6.97 million funded research on ‘smart toilets’ designed to recognize unique ‘anal prints’ of users, while $2.3 million supported studies on injecting beagle dogs with cocaine. Furthermore, $118,000 was reportedly allocated to investigating whether a metal replica of Thanos could snap his fingers, alongside $75,000 in grants for a Harvard study on how lizards are affected when blown off trees with leaf blowers.

One of DOGE’s links pointed to a 2021 RealClear Policy article discussing the Stanford study that received $6.97 million for developing smart toilets. These toilets utilize AI and cameras to identify users’ unique ‘anal prints,’ analyze urine and stool for health monitoring, and transmit the data to a secure cloud.

Additional studies included a $75,000 project by the National Science Foundation simulating hurricanes with leaf blowers to observe lizard survival strategies. Moreover, between 2020 and 2021, the National Institutes of Health allocated $2.3 million for experiments involving cocaine-injected beagles to examine cardiovascular effects, which has sparked public criticism.

A Treasury Department website notes that the federal government allocates funds for a variety of goods, programs, and services geared toward supporting the American public.

During his campaign, Trump vowed that if he won the November election, he would set up a “government efficiency” commission headed by Musk. The tech billionaire has frequently raised alarms about the U.S. debt, expressing concerns that the nation is on a path toward bankruptcy and must control its spending.

At that time, Musk reiterated his commitment to saving American taxpayers trillions, stating that “taxpayer money is being wasted and the Department of Government Efficiency is going to fix that.”
