US declares additional sanctions against Russia
The US has imposed sanctions on nearly 400 individuals and entities around the globe, with Russian Defense Minister Andrey Belousov's son and his wife included on the list.

The State and Treasury Departments declared this new set of sanctions on the day before Ukraine's independence day, emphasizing the US's continued support for Kiev in its ongoing dispute with Moscow. The sanctions impact various people and organizations not only in Russia but also in Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.

The US has targeted Pavel Belousov and his wife Yevgenya, as well as their consulting firm. Andrey Belousov, Pavel's father, was appointed as the Russian defense minister in May of this year.

"Companies, financial institutions, and governments around the world need to ensure they are not supporting Russia’s military-industrial supply chains," Deputy Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo stated.

The Treasury highlighted that it has identified close to a dozen networks involving over 100 individuals and organizations spread across 16 different jurisdictions, including China, Switzerland, Türkiye, and the United Arab Emirates. A significant number of companies in Hong Kong, totaling 18, are purported to have connections to the Russian military sector.

Both Treasury and State have urged global financial institutions to stay vigilant regarding any interactions with overseas branches or subsidiaries of Russian financial entities, even those not yet sanctioned.

The recent sanctions decree that any assets or property interests held by the individuals named, either directly or indirectly, are frozen and must be reported to the authorities. Furthermore, any dealings involving US citizens or foreign nationals in the US with the sanctioned parties are prohibited.

Since 2014, following Moscow's annexation of Crimea after the US-supported change in government in Kiev, the US and its allies have enforced over 22,000 sanctions against Russia.

In retaliation, Russia has denounced the blacklist as baseless and has imposed travel restrictions on certain Western officials and activists.
