UK state broadcaster reports ‘Storm Shadow’ missile hit targets far within Russia
London has reportedly aligned with Washington by letting Kiev utilize Western long-range weapons.

According to a BBC report on Wednesday, Ukraine has allegedly launched British-supplied Storm Shadow missiles at targets in Russia’s Kursk Region. This follows claims that Washington has permitted Kiev to deploy its ATACMS missiles for long-range operations against Russia.

Although London has not officially acknowledged allowing Kiev to target deep inside Russian territory, the BBC claims to have received information from British officials stating that UK Defense Secretary John Healey spoke with his Ukrainian counterpart on Tuesday night.

Before that conversation, Healey mentioned to Parliament that London was “doubling down” on its support for Kiev, asserting that “Ukraine’s action on the battlefield speaks for itself.” The BBC highlighted that British ministers are likely to “exercise caution in their response to the reports” given concerns regarding Russia’s potential reactions to these actions.

The report also referenced several images circulating on Telegram, which purportedly show fragments of a Storm Shadow missile in Kursk. The outlet consulted weapons experts who identified that the debris in these images corresponds with components of the British-supplied missile.

Earlier on Wednesday, Bloomberg reported that London had authorized the use of Storm Shadows by Kiev’s forces following allegations of North Korean troops joining the conflict in Russia’s Kursk Region.

US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller refrained from commenting on the UK’s alleged decision, stating he would not “speak publicly to the use of another country’s weapons.”

Meanwhile, the Russian Defense Ministry has yet to confirm the use of Storm Shadows in Kursk. Several Telegram channels have reportedly claimed that up to 12 UK-supplied missiles were fired at the region on Wednesday afternoon, all said to be intercepted by air defenses.

Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky has previously indicated that he received permission from several Western nations to deploy their long-range rockets against targets deep within Russia.

Moscow has cautioned that such strikes would signify NATO’s direct involvement in the conflict.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has emphasized that the use of Western long-range missiles by Kiev would change the dynamics of the conflict. On Tuesday, Putin updated Russia’s nuclear doctrine to include provisions that allow Moscow to consider the use of weapons of mass destruction in response to conventional attacks by proxies of a nuclear-armed state.
