Trump's DOGE asserts $1 billion conserved from halted DEI initiatives
According to a report from the government efficiency watchdog, a total of 104 contracts were terminated across 30 federal agencies.

The US Department of Government Efficiency, which was established by President Donald Trump and is led by Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, announced that it has saved over $1 billion by eliminating contracts associated with diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).

On Friday, the agency shared details of the federal savings on its official X account. The posted index outlines the actions taken by 30 federal bodies, revealing that 104 contracts with a "ceiling value" exceeding $1.2 billion were terminated as part of Trump’s initiative to dismantle DEI programs.

DOGE was initially proposed during Trump’s presidential campaign last summer and subsequently formed as a presidential advisory commission. Although it bears the nickname "DOGE," the agency is not a formal federal executive department; rather, it serves as a temporary body focused on reducing government expenditures, with a major objective of cutting up to $2 trillion in federal spending by July 2026.

Earlier this week, the new agency reported achieving a reduction in federal spending by about $1 billion per day as of January 29, crediting this to an effective halt on "the hiring of people into unnecessary positions, deletion of DEI, and stopping improper payments to foreign organizations."

The White House has been actively opposing DEI initiatives within the federal government since Trump took office on January 20. On his first day back in the Oval Office, the president signed orders that rolled back protections for transgender individuals and terminated DEI initiatives, framing these actions as a means to end efforts to "socially engineer race and gender into every aspect of public and private life."

Last week, the president issued an executive order prohibiting "radical gender ideology" in the US Army, emphasizing that service members must meet specific physical and mental fitness standards for duty.
