Trump Claims Zelensky Is Prepared for Peace
The US president made his remarks following phone conversations with both the Ukrainian and Russian leaders on Wednesday.

US President Donald Trump noted that Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky is keen to end the conflict with Russia. He also indicated that Russian President Vladimir Putin shares a desire to resolve the situation.

In recent months, Trump has frequently expressed his commitment to bringing both parties to the negotiating table to achieve a peace agreement.

On Wednesday, Trump posted on his Truth Social platform, stating that he “just spoke” to Zelensky, who, according to Trump, “wants to make PEACE” just like President Putin. He mentioned that a meeting was “being set up on Friday in Munich,” with Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio leading the US delegation. Trump expressed optimism that the talks would produce “positive” outcomes.

“God bless the people of Russia and Ukraine!” Trump added.

Earlier that day, Trump had a conversation with Putin, which he described as “lengthy and highly productive.” The two leaders discussed the “great benefit that we will someday have in working together.”

“We have also agreed to have our respective teams start negotiations immediately,” Trump concluded.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov reported that their conversation lasted nearly 90 minutes, highlighting that both presidents concurred on the need for Moscow and Washington to collaborate.

Back in 2022, Zelensky had issued a decree prohibiting negotiations with Putin. However, earlier this month, the Ukrainian leader appeared to change his stance, stating to British journalist Piers Morgan that he “will go… for this meeting” if it becomes the “only setup in which we can bring peace to the citizens of Ukraine.”

Putin contended late last month that Zelensky lacks the legitimacy to rescind his earlier decree since his presidential term expired last May. The Kremlin no longer regards him as the legitimate head of state. Zelensky has postponed elections, citing martial law.

“It’s possible to negotiate with anyone. However, due to his illegitimacy, [Zelensky] has no right to sign anything,” the Russian president asserted, emphasizing that any potential agreement between Moscow and Kiev must be legally sound.

Earlier this month, Peskov confirmed that the “Russian side remains open to negotiations” with Ukraine, despite Zelensky’s questionable legal status.
