Tesla issues recall for majority of Cybertrucks over detaching trim issue
Tesla is recalling nearly all Cybertrucks in the United States to address an issue with an exterior panel that could detach during operation, as announced by the company on Thursday. This marks the latest in a series of recalls for the pickup...

The recall impacts just over 46,000 vehicles manufactured from November 2023 to February 27 of this year, according to a filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Although Tesla does not publicly share delivery numbers for its Cybertrucks, the vehicles included in this recall represent a significant majority of those currently on the road, based on estimates from analysts.
This recall may represent a setback for Tesla, whose stock has decreased by approximately half this year amid increasing competition, an aging vehicle lineup, and criticism of CEO Elon Musk's involvement in federal spending cuts during the Trump administration.
The reason for the recall is the risk of a stainless steel exterior trim panel detaching from the vehicle, which poses a potential hazard on the road and increases the likelihood of a crash, the company stated.
"Recalls of the entire production for a physical item such as body panels focus attention on quality issues that Tesla has avoided for many years," commented Sam Fiorani, vice president at research firm AutoForecast Solutions. "Reputations take a long time to build and can be tarnished very quickly."
Demand for the unique electric vehicle pickup had already indicated signs of weakness toward the end of the previous year after experiencing several delays.
Additionally, analysts have noted a shift in sentiment regarding the EV maker from both current customers and prospective buyers, highlighted by protests at Tesla stores across the U.S. and the emergence of sales boycotts.
