"Spokesperson Says Military Drills Serve as Warning to Taiwan Separatist Forces"
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning stated on Monday that the Chinese military exercises in the Taiwan Straits serve as a firm response to foreign complicity and backing of "Taiwan independence," and act as a significant warning to those advocating for Taiwan's separation.

During a daily press briefing, Mao emphasized that these military actions are essential, lawful, and justified measures aimed at safeguarding national sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity.
Her comments came following reports that the Chinese military carried out exercises in the Taiwan Straits on the same day. Observers believe these drills are linked to recent changes made on the U.S. State Department's website concerning Taiwan policy, alongside actions taken by proponents of "Taiwan independence."
Mao criticized the United States for its series of misguided actions regarding Taiwan, specifically pointing out the removal of language on the State Department's website that reflected the one-China principle and opposed "Taiwan independence." Such changes send incorrect signals to those advocating for Taiwan's independence.
Mao reiterated that the Taiwan issue is central to China’s core interests and that the one-China principle serves as the foundation for China-U.S. relations. She remarked, "Mishandling of the Taiwan question will shake the very foundation of China-U.S. relations." Furthermore, she likened the push for "Taiwan independence" to a force inherently at odds with peace and stability in the Taiwan Straits, arguing that using the Taiwan question as a means to contain China will only result in self-inflicted harm.
The spokesperson called on the United States to honor commitments made by previous administrations regarding Taiwan, to refrain from provocative actions that cross critical boundaries, and to handle Taiwan-related matters with increased caution to prevent causing further damage to peace and stability in the Taiwan Straits and to the overall China-U.S. relationship.
