Senior official speaks about Putin-Trump meeting arrangements
Yury Ushakov has announced that the Russian delegation is prepared to engage in focused efforts to facilitate the discussions between the two presidents.

Moscow and Washington are looking to establish conditions conducive to a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart, Donald Trump, as stated by Ushakov, who serves as Putin’s senior foreign policy adviser. These remarks came in the wake of high-level discussions between the two nations held in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday.
The Riyadh meetings marked the first official discussions since the escalation of the Ukraine conflict in 2022, with the objective of normalizing relations and setting the stage for peace negotiations regarding Ukraine.
Ushakov mentioned that the delegations talked about a potential meeting between Putin and Trump. When asked to address a previous report from Bloomberg suggesting that a meeting could take place as soon as next week, Ushakov remarked, “That is unlikely.” He emphasized the need for substantial preparatory work by both delegations prior to any presidential gathering.
“We are ready for [that work] but at the moment it’s too early to talk about specific dates,” he noted.
US National Security Adviser Mike Waltz also indicated that no date has been scheduled for a Trump-Putin meeting, even though both parties are keen to facilitate it.
Following a phone call with Putin last week, Trump expressed that he could “probably” meet his Russian counterpart in person soon, hinting that Saudi Arabia might host the meeting.
Earlier comments from Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov highlighted that details regarding a potential meeting between the two leaders remain scarce, acknowledging that thorough preparation will be necessary.
