Speaking during a plenary debate on Syria and the humanitarian crisis in the Middle East on Tuesday, Braun, a member of Poland’s Confederation of the Polish Crown party, criticized the actions of his peers.
“God Bless everybody, Syrians and all the others,” he stated to lawmakers in Strasbourg, France.
He then posed a provocative question: “The question is – who’s next? Who’s next that you’re going to nominate for ‘a bad guy,’ somebody to be erased, delegitimized, somebody that you want to help rob, kill, who’s next?”
Braun further argued that European parliamentarians seem to be engaged in the continuous task of identifying their next adversaries during debates.
“You nominate Russia obviously, China, North Korea, Iran, Syria, Georgia, Moldova, Romania. These are the countries that you don’t like,” he emphasized.
According to Braun, such an approach is irreversibly dragging the EU towards warfare.
“All along you were being grotesque with your warmongering. Now you’re becoming more and more dangerous to the people of Europe and the world,” he asserted.
Known for his sharp critiques of the EU's stance on various international issues, including the conflict in Ukraine, Braun faced an incident in September when his microphone was muted during a debate in which he questioned whether the European Parliament functioned as “some war council.” He suggested that the EU's ongoing military support for Ukraine merely prolongs the conflict while doing little to assist the Ukrainian populace.
In the following month, Braun found himself in another tense exchange after the parliament's approval of a loan for Ukraine amounting to €35 billion, which would be financed through revenues from frozen Russian assets. He, along with other parliamentarians, condemned this move as “theft.”
Braun expressed his refusal to participate in what he called “organized crime” by spending money that is “simply not yours.”
In October, he criticized the EU for overlooking Israeli actions against Palestinians, alleging that the bloc had effectively given Israel the mandate to bomb whomever it wished.
