Police report 1 fatality in Rotterdam stabbing attack
In Rotterdam, a stabbing incident occurred on Thursday evening near the Erasmus Bridge, resulting in one fatality and one person injured, as confirmed by police. Following the attack, a suspect was arrested.

During the incident, bystanders managed to subdue the attacker, according to police reports. The apprehended suspect sustained injuries and was subsequently hospitalized, police spokesperson Wessel Stolle explained during a press briefing.

Stolle also noted that the motivation behind the attack has not yet been identified, and authorities are examining "all possible scenarios."

The local newspaper, De Telegraaf, reported that the suspect was equipped with two large knives and appeared to be attacking people indiscriminately. "Multiple witnesses interviewed by the Dutch media said that the assailant was shouting ‘Allahu Akbar’," as quoted in reports.

According to De Telegraaf, an onlooker commented that it was evident the attacker "clearly intended to claim many victims."

Reniel Renato David Litecia, a kickboxing trainer, recounted to journalists how he intervened during the attack, using sticks to disarm the assailant and seizing the knives. It was also noted that other individuals attempted to inhibit the suspect by hurling furniture at him.

The site of the incident is now being managed by investigative and medical teams.

In relation to potential security threats, the Dutch government had previously indicated in June an escalated risk of terrorist acts. They issued a statement attributing the primary threat to Jihadism, propelled by propaganda stemming from the ongoing conflict in Gaza and incidents involving desecrations of the Quran, referencing a public Quran burning in Arnhem earlier in January.
