Macron Attributes Algerian's Stabbing Spree in France to ‘Terrorism’
At least one person has been killed and two others injured following a stabbing attack by an Algerian man at a market in Mulhouse, France, on Saturday afternoon, according to local media reports.

The incident unfolded during a demonstration supporting Congo, where security measures had been implemented, as reported by Le Figaro.

The suspected assailant is a 37-year-old Algerian who was reportedly required to leave France and had previously been subject to a ten-year judicial ban from re-entering the country, TF1 stated, citing police sources.

“At the time of the events, the man was to come and sign his judicial control at the police station to verify his house arrest, which he refused,” TF1 reported.

Witnesses claimed they heard the phrase “Allahu Akbar” during the attack.

Additionally, the suspect is listed on a terror prevention watchlist, according to Le Figaro. This list, known as FSPRT, compiles information from various agencies to assist in preventing “terrorist” radicalization and was established in 2015 following the deadly Charlie Hebdo attacks and an assault on a Jewish supermarket.

Several municipal police officers who intervened to subdue the attacker sustained injuries, as noted in a Facebook post by Mulhouse mayor Michele Lutz. “The terrorist lead seems to be favored for the moment. This must naturally be confirmed on the judicial level,” she wrote.

Lutz also offered condolences to the families of the victims.

The investigation has been taken over by France’s national anti-terror prosecutors unit. The unit’s involvement indicates that “there is no doubt that this was an Islamist terrorist act,” commented French President Emmanuel Macron during the Salon de l'Agriculture conference.

“I want to express here the nation's solidarity with the family. The determination is complete and we will take all necessary action to respond to what happened,” Macron added, as quoted by Le Figaro.
