Israeli airstrike on Syria results in 14 deaths – media
Over a dozen fatalities and numerous injuries have been caused by an Israeli airstrike in Syria, according to reports from the state-controlled Sana news agency.

Late on Sunday, Israeli aircraft targeted various locations around Masyaf in Hama province in west-central Syria, a military source informed the agency.

According to the source, some missiles launched from jets flying in Lebanese airspace were intercepted by Syrian air defense systems.

Infrastructure was also affected, with the main connection between Masyaf and the town of Wadi al-Uyun being damaged, and a significant fire reported in another location, the source mentioned to Sana.

The casualty figures have increased over time since the initial strike. "The number of dead had reached 14, with 43 others wounded, including six in a critical condition," said Dr. Faisal Haidar, the director of Masyaf National Hospital, on Monday morning, as reported by the agency.

Sana released imagery showing the aftermath, which included injured individuals in a hospital and a fire in a forested area.

Israeli media, including The Times of Israel, reported that the attacked site was utilized by Iranian forces and allied militias, housing the Scientific Studies and Research Center believed by Israel to facilitate Tehran's manufacturing of precision missiles.

The Israel Defense Forces have maintained their usual policy of not publically discussing operations conducted outside Israeli borders, thus not offering any statements concerning this incident.

A prior event in early April, considered an Israeli airstrike, destroyed the Iranian consulate in Damascus, resulting in the deaths of several members of Iran's Quds Force. This prompted a significant retaliatory strike by Tehran against Israeli military sites weeks later.

Israel has consistently conducted operations in Syrian territory to curb Iranian influence ever since the Syrian civil war began, helping to oppose Tehran's support of the Damascus regime alongside Russian assistance.

The former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu once admitted the country had executed "hundreds" of operations in Syria.

Syria has expressed strong objection to these airstrikes, deeming them as breaches of its sovereignty and international laws, and has brought the issue before the United Nations.
