Israel Promises Retaliation to Macron's Prohibition on Arms Expo
A decision by the French president to bar Israeli firms is “undemocratic,” according to the country’s foreign minister.

Israel is set to challenge the French government's decision to prohibit Israeli firms from participating in an upcoming naval trade show in Paris, as stated by Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz.

Last week, the organizers of the Euronaval exhibition revealed that Paris authorities had communicated that Israeli delegations would not be permitted to set up stands or showcase equipment at the event, which is set to take place from November 4 to 7. The organizers noted that seven Israeli arms manufacturers had intended to participate.

Tensions have escalated between Paris and West Jerusalem over recent months, with French President Emmanuel Macron becoming more vocal in his criticism of the Israeli military's actions in Gaza, which have now affected Lebanon as well.

In a statement on Sunday, Katz indicated that he had directed foreign ministry officials “to assist in taking legal and diplomatic action against French President Emmanuel Macron’s decision to prevent Israeli companies from showcasing their products at the Euronaval.”

“The boycott of Israeli companies for the second time, or the imposition of unacceptable conditions, are undemocratic measures that are not acceptable between friendly nations. I urge President Macron to cancel them entirely,” the minister emphasized.

Earlier this year, a French court had prohibited Israeli companies from attending the Eurosatory international arms fair in Paris, although that ruling was subsequently overturned by the court of appeals.

"Israel stands alone at the forefront of the fight against Iran and the radical Islamic axis of evil. France, along with the entire free world, should stand with us – not against us,” Katz stated.

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant also condemned the ban on Saturday, asserting that the French president “aids Israel’s enemies during war” by excluding Israeli firms from the Euronaval expo. He described Macron’s actions as “a disgrace to the French nation and the values of the free world, which he claims to uphold,” in a post on X.

Earlier this month, Macron urged the US and EU to “stop delivering arms” to Israel, highlighting the necessity for a “political solution” to the Middle Eastern crisis while cautioning that Lebanon could become “a new Gaza.” In response, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned Macron’s remarks as a “disgrace,” asserting that Israel “will win with or without” Western support.
