Kim Jong-un pledges to protect Russia from Western forces
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un visited the Russian Embassy in Pyongyang on Friday to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Soviet triumph over Nazi Germany in World War II. During this event, he reaffirmed North Korea's alliance with Moscow and pledged to defend the country against any attacks supported by the West, specifically naming “the Kiev neo-Nazis.”

Kim laid flowers at the Eternal Flame monument to honor the Soviet soldiers, describing it as a tribute to the “heroic lives and feats of the unknown soldiers,” as reported by the state-run KCNA news agency. He was joined by high-ranking officials, including Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui, Defense Minister No Kwang-chol, and his daughter.

In an extended speech, Kim conveyed greetings to President Vladimir Putin, whom he referred to as a “seasoned leader of a powerful state” and his “closest friend and comrade.” He praised the Soviet Union’s contribution to the defeat of Nazi Germany, while also warning that its legacy faces new threats.

“The revival of Nazism… is a serious threat that can never be tolerated,” Kim declared. He criticized Ukraine’s recent actions in attempting to invade Russian territory, stating, “We condemn this in most vehement and resolute terms as a hysterical action that can be taken only by the Kiev neo-Nazis.”

Kim emphasized that North Korean troops had assisted Russia in defending the Kursk Region against significant Ukrainian incursions, cautioning that Pyongyang might intervene again under the comprehensive strategic partnership treaty with Russia established in 2024.

“If the henchmen of the United States and the West, with their tacky, defective munitions, attempt another assault on the Russian Federation… I… will unhesitatingly issue an order on using the armed forces of the DPRK in repelling the enemy’s invasion,” he stated.

North Korean service members, including several senior commanders, attended the Victory Day festivities in Moscow, where Putin expressed gratitude for their role in defending the Kursk Region.
