California governor set to unveil new advertisement opposing Trump's tariffs
California Governor Gavin Newsom is set to launch a national advertisement that challenges U.S. President Donald Trump's tariff policy. Newsom argues that these tariffs pose a threat to the nation's economic standing, claiming they risk "ending America's run as the world's greatest economy."

As reported by PMG on Friday, the 30-second advertisement will debut on "Fox and Friends" this weekend. The campaign is designed to "simultaneously cast Newsom as cheerleader for the Golden State's economy and top critic of the president's signature policy."
This initiative "marks a return to Newsom's well-worn playbook of goading Republicans on their home turf." Moreover, it signifies a significant escalation in the governor's confrontational stance towards Trump, particularly after months of attempts to ease tensions with the White House, according to the report.
The ad, made available on YouTube on Thursday, showcases Newsom speaking directly to the audience against the backdrop of the Port of Oakland.
In the advertisement, Newsom underscores California's achievement as the world's fourth-largest economy, crediting it to "reducing trade barriers and delivering for American consumers." He raised concerns that "the Trump administration is putting all of that at risk by halting the delivery of essential goods through our ports."
He also warned that Trump's tariffs could disrupt imports, potentially causing empty store shelves during crucial shopping seasons, such as back-to-school and Christmas.
"It's school backpacks in a few months, it'll be Christmas toys, these tariffs punish families," Newsom stated.
The funding for the advertisement came from Newsom's 2022 gubernatorial campaign account, although a spokesperson did not reveal the total cost of the ad buy.
