IAEA aims to enhance collaboration with China regarding nuclear technology usage
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has expressed admiration for China's notable advancements in nuclear development and is keen to enhance collaboration on the peaceful use of nuclear energy, according to an IAEA representative.

Sophie Boutaud de la Combe, director of the Office of Public Information and Communication at the IAEA, highlighted the diverse nature of the cooperation between the IAEA and China, which encompasses nuclear energy, nuclear technology applications, nuclear safety and security, and nonproliferation. This statement was made during an event marking the 40th anniversary of China's membership in the IAEA.

She noted that the China Atomic Energy Authority (CAEA), in collaboration with the IAEA, has facilitated significant projects and achieved impressive results. These accomplishments are not only vital for China's growth but also hold substantial implications for the global peaceful use of nuclear energy.

"I'm very much looking forward to learning more about China's progress in those areas and exploring how to leverage and promote those successful experiences through the partnership with CAEA news center," she mentioned.

According to Boutaud de la Combe, China's extraordinary economic growth and advancements in knowledge, technology, and expertise have positioned the country as a crucial financial and political supporter of the IAEA.

She expressed appreciation for the Chinese experts sharing their expertise with other nations during the event organized by the CAEA. "China is helping other countries achieve their own energy goals by building quickly and safely their own capability industry on nuclear power development," she stated.

Liu Jing, vice chairman of the CAEA, explained that since joining the IAEA 40 years ago, China has fostered a close working relationship with the agency, which has significantly improved the safety and development of its nuclear energy sector while also contributing to the sustainable development of nuclear energy on a global scale.

He indicated that China is open to collaborating with the IAEA and relevant parties to promote innovations in nuclear energy technology and to broaden cooperation to ensure that more countries benefit from nuclear energy.

During her visit, Sophie Boutaud de la Combe toured the China National Nuclear Corporation, the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and the Qinshan nuclear power base. She is also slated to visit China General Nuclear Power Group, the Daya Bay nuclear power base, and Sun Yat-sen University in Guangdong Province to gain insights into the latest applications of nuclear technology in China.
