Hezbollah Confirms Passing of Drone Leader

The head of Hezbollah’s drone and cruise missile command has been confirmed dead following an Israeli Strike on Beirut, as reported by the Lebanon-based militant group in a post on Telegram on Friday.

The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) stated on Thursday that they had killed Mohammad Srour, also known as Abu Saleh, in a strike targeting an apartment building in southern Beirut.

“Fighter jets attacked Beirut and killed Mohammad Hussein Srour,” the IDF said in a post on X.

According to Lebanon’s National News Agency, “three missiles” were aimed at “a residential apartment in a ten-story building.”

In a subsequent update on Telegram, Hezbollah confirmed the death of Srour, 51, who had been with the militant group since 1986 and had “led military operations for the Islamic resistance’s air force on the Lebanese support front.”

He was reportedly responsible for overseeing Hezbollah’s drone, cruise missile, and air-defense branch. The IDF noted that he “directed and commanded” numerous drone attacks against Israel.

Local media reported that this was the fourth attack within a week targeting Hezbollah officials in a heavily populated area of southern Beirut. The strike resulted in two deaths and wounded 15 others, “including a woman in critical condition,” according to Lebanon’s Health Ministry.

Israel has eliminated at least three high-ranking Hezbollah commanders since last Friday, including Ibrahim Aqil, Ahmed Wahbi, and Ibrahim Qubaisi.

The killing of Hezbollah’s aerial command head signifies a considerable escalation in the ongoing Israel-Lebanon conflict.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu asserted on Thursday that large-scale military operations against Hezbollah would continue, dismissing increasing international demands for a ceasefire.

Earlier in the week, the US and France proposed a 21-day ceasefire to facilitate broader negotiations between Israel and Hezbollah. While Netanyahu’s office indicated that he had not yet responded to the proposal, the Israeli prime minister instructed troops to maintain “fighting with full force” against Lebanon.

Netanyahu’s resolute position has diminished the likelihood of a ceasefire, despite attempts by international officials urging a temporary cessation of hostilities to avert a full-scale war.
