German foreign minister ends marriage, reports media
German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock and her spouse, Daniel Holefleisch, have announced their separation following 17 years of marriage. The couple issued a statement, as reported by Bild, in which they stated, “we made the decision together some time ago that we are no longer a couple.”

Baerbock, aged 43, and Holefleisch, aged 51, were married in August 2007 and share two daughters, who are nine and 13 years old. In their statement, they highlighted their dedication to co-parenting, noting that “the most important thing for us is to ensure that our two daughters can grow up in peace and in a loving environment.” They also mentioned their intention to continue living together in their home located in Potsdam.

The couple requested privacy for their family, particularly for their children’s well-being, and indicated that they would not be providing any additional comments regarding their separation. Bild reported that they recently spent the autumn holidays together with their daughters during a family trip.

After Baerbock assumed office in 2021, Holefleisch stepped down from his position at Deutsche Post DHL, where he served as a lobbyist, to prevent any potential conflicts of interest stemming from his wife's political role. In May 2022, he began working at the communications agency MSL, concentrating on public affairs consulting. Local media have also indicated that a contractual agreement restricted him from having direct contact with the leadership of the Foreign Office.

When questioned last year about her limited sharing of personal information, Baerbock attributed it to the “intensified Russian propaganda” amid the Ukraine conflict, without providing further elaboration.
