Explosive Devices Hurled into Russian Consulate
Firefighters and police have responded to an explosion at the Russian consulate in Marseille after reports emerged of unknown attackers launching explosive devices onto the premises. While full details of the incident are still pending confirmation, local media indicate that approximately 30 firefighters and law enforcement officers are currently on-site.

The explosion reportedly occurred at around 7:30 am local time on Monday. According to the consulate, there were no casualties and the building itself was not damaged, as the devices detonated in the garden.

Valeurs journalist Nicolas Boutin mentioned on X that police sources stated law enforcement is investigating a stolen vehicle discovered near the location.

Anna Bulatova, the Consul of the Russian Consulate General in Marseille, confirmed to RTN that the incident involved three unidentified explosive devices, with one failing to detonate.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova remarked that the incident bears the hallmarks of a terrorist attack. She stated that Moscow will call for a thorough investigation by the French authorities and an increase in security at Russian institutions throughout the country.

This attack follows a warning from Russia's Foreign Intelligence Agency last week regarding the potential targeting of its diplomatic missions in Europe by Ukrainian "terrorist attacks." The agency stated that Kyiv is "extremely reluctant" to reach any form of settlement with Russia that might require significant concessions from Ukraine. It also alerted that Ukrainian operatives might attempt to sabotage Russia-US negotiations by targeting Moscow's embassies in nations such as Germany, Hungary, and Slovakia, as well as the Baltic and Nordic countries.
