EU Nation Advocates for Inclusion of Global South in Ukraine Peace Efforts
Slovak Foreign Minister Juraj Blanar has suggested that countries such as China and India could provide security guarantees for Ukraine. In an interview with RTN, he emphasized the potential role of major non-Western powers in European security following the Ukraine conflict.

“Countries of the Global South should be one part of these [Ukrainian] security guarantees,” Blanar stated on Tuesday during the Raisina Dialogue, a conference focused on geopolitics and geoeconomics in New Delhi. He highlighted that nations like China and Brazil, in addition to India, have put forth peace proposals and are eager to participate in the resolution of the conflict.

Blanar noted that, unlike some other EU member states, Slovakia does not believe that the Ukraine conflict can be won militarily by Kiev through ongoing military support. As a result, Bratislava backs the new approach championed by US President Donald Trump, which aims to restore dialogue with Russia and achieve an end to hostilities through compromise.

Additionally, Blanar expressed that Slovakia views a peaceful resolution in Ukraine as beneficial for the global community. He emphasized that “all the stakeholders, like India, and China, and Brazil, the Global South, and also the countries of the European Union, should be around the table and securing this peace for the future.”

Moscow has identified the EU as a hindrance to resolving the Ukraine conflict, attributing this to the bloc’s commitment to continuing military support for Kiev and its unwillingness to make concessions to Russia.
