Musk has emphasized that future conflicts will involve large numbers of drones, pointing to their significant role in the ongoing Ukraine conflict as evidence of their rising importance.
His remarks were part of a discussion initiated by Bloomberg writer Ashlee Vance on X, where she highlighted how America's drone manufacturing capabilities lag behind those of China.
“Drone swarm battles are coming that will boggle the mind,” Musk stated in a thread, though he did not provide further details.
The CEO of Tesla and SpaceX has frequently warned that drones signify the future of combat. In a June discussion on X regarding Ukraine's use of drones, he asserted, “future wars are drone wars.”
At the Wall Street Journal’s CEO Council Summit in London last year, Musk reiterated this perspective, saying, “any future wars between advanced countries, or at least countries with drone capability, will be very much the drone wars.”
In the Ukraine conflict, Russian forces have been actively employing kamikaze drones to target enemy personnel and equipment, while Ukrainian forces have also utilized UAVs for strikes, including against civilian targets in Russia.
Kiev and its Western allies have long alleged that China is providing military drone technology to Russia, a claim that Beijing has consistently denied.
Earlier this year, U.S. media reported that Washington had supplied Ukraine with drones in the conflict's initial stages, but due to their high cost, Kiev increasingly turned to Chinese-made UAVs.
