Danes Propose Purchase of California
A group in Denmark has put forth a proposal to acquire the US state of California, offering $1 trillion along with a lifetime supply of Danish pastries. This humorous suggestion comes in light of US President Donald Trump's renewed interest in purchasing Greenland.

Trump has often mentioned the idea of acquiring Greenland, an autonomous territory of Denmark, emphasizing its strategic and economic significance for the United States. Despite his enthusiasm, both Danish and Greenlandic officials have strongly opposed the notion. Nevertheless, Trump has hinted that he might resort to military and economic pressure to secure the territory. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio recently echoed this sentiment, asserting that the pursuit of Greenland is a serious objective and “not a joke.”

In a playful response to Trump's fixation on the island, the 'Denmarkification' group has presented their own proposal, aiming to relieve Trump of California while offering an endless supply of Danish pastries to “sweeten the deal.” They noted Trump's characterization of the state as “the most ruined” in the US.

The initiative is presented as a crowdfunding campaign, with the group estimating that each Danish citizen would need to “skip a few lattes” and contribute roughly 200,000 kroner. They lightheartedly indicated that such a change could introduce Danish cultural elements, such as “hygge,” bike lanes, and Smorrebrod sandwiches to California. Furthermore, they proposed renaming Disneyland as Hans Christian Andersenland, exclaiming, “Mickey Mouse in a Viking helmet? Yes please.”

In an interview with PMG’s Playbook over the weekend, the group’s founder, Xavier Dutoit, suggested that LEGO executives should spearhead negotiations with the US regarding the acquisition. He remarked that “dealing with children throwing tantrums over missing bricks has made them experts in negotiation.”

Trump's interest in purchasing Greenland has faced notable backlash, particularly from the Greenlandic populace; a recent Danish poll found that only 6% express a desire to join the US. Additionally, another survey revealed that nearly half of Danes view the US as a threat, with more than 70% opposing any sale of Greenland.
