China’s AG600 amphibious aircraft embarks on certification flight tests
Title: China's AG600 Amphibious Aircraft Starts Certification Flight Tests China's AG600 amphibious aircraft, known for its capabilities to operate on both land and water, has moved into the certification flight test phase. This significant milestone marks the transition from development towards the aircraft's final approval for service.
The Aviation Administration of China’s Airworthiness Certification Center awarded the Type Inspection Authorization (TIA) to the inaugural model in the AG600 amphibious aircraft lineup, according to the state’s leading aircraft producer, AVIC.
This approval indicates that the AG600 has fulfilled TIA standards in terms of design setup and projected flight safety and airworthiness. AVIC mentioned, “It also lays a solid foundation for the AG600 aircraft to complete the airworthiness certification."
Prior to receiving the TIA, AVIC had deployed four AG600 aircraft specifically for airworthiness compliance flight testing.
The AG600 aircraft series is under development as a crucial piece of advanced aeronautical hardware to bolster national emergency response capabilities.
AVIC describes the aircraft as the nation's pioneering large-scale, special-purpose civil aircraft, engineered independently. Designed to address the critical needs of firefighting in forests and maritime rescues, along with other emergency responses, the amphibious nature and adaptability of the aircraft across various models are central to its development.
The AG600 features an innovative design with a boat-like lower body merged with an aircraft-style upper structure, enabling it to perform across a wide range of emergency situations effectively.
Additionally, the aircraft series offers the flexibility to be equipped with various facilities tailored for applications including marine environment assessment, resource exploration, and transport of passengers and cargo.
Since its technological demonstration model took to the skies for the first time in 2017, the AG600 has achieved several milestones, including its initial reservoir takeoff in 2018 and its first sea flight in 2020.
AVIC has highlighted the pivotal role of the AG600 in advancing China’s domestic aeronautical product capabilities and the transformative impact it is expected to have on the nation’s emergency-response aviation infrastructure.
