China sets up wildlife center dedicated to the protection of tigers and leopards
China has launched a wildlife center dedicated to the protection of tigers and leopards. This initiative aims to bolster conservation efforts and enhance the safety of these endangered species in their natural habitats. The center is expected to play a crucial role in the preservation of biodiversity and the implementation of sustainable practices to protect these majestic animals.
This initiative is a collaboration between the management bureau of the Northeast China Tiger and Leopard National Park and Jishi Media, a media company based in Jilin. The center will utilize rare footage of tigers, leopards, and other wildlife collected through the park's monitoring systems.
Content created will be shared on various global social media platforms to reach a broader audience and enhance awareness of the park's conservation initiatives, as stated by the center.
You Zhiqiang, general manager of Jishi Media, noted that the center aims to build a strong "cultural brand" for the Manchurian tigers and Amur leopards found in northeast China. This will be achieved through the development of communication channels, international collaboration, and various other efforts.
China established the Northeast China Tiger and Leopard National Park in 2021, which spans Heilongjiang and Jilin provinces. The park now serves as a protected habitat for approximately 70 wild Manchurian tigers and 80 Amur leopards.
The wildlife monitoring system in the park, which has been significantly developed by Jishi Media, employs nearly 28,000 infrared cameras, fire-prevention technologies, and AI-driven analytics. Additionally, the center is working on new technologies designed to enable the individual identification of wild Siberian tigers.
Manchurian tigers, also referred to as Amur tigers, primarily inhabit Russia's Far East and northeast China. They are classified as one of the world's most endangered species and serve as a flagship species for the forest ecosystem.
