China boasts over 600 million registered users of generative artificial intelligence services, as reported by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology on Saturday.

Zhao Zhiguo, the chief engineer at the MIIT, emphasized the ongoing growth of the nation’s core AI industry, which now includes more than 4,500 companies.

He also mentioned that there are currently nearly 200 generative AI service models that are registered and available for public use.

Zhao pointed out the necessity of improving AI infrastructure to serve public needs and creating accessible, adaptable, and highly available platforms for AI development. This is crucial for speeding up the training, optimization, and widespread application of AI models.

Additionally, there is a pressing need to boost the computing power supply and develop a unified national computing system, which will enhance the availability of intelligent computing resources, according to Zhao.

On the same day, China's telecommunications operator, China Mobile, introduced an evaluation standard for general AI large models in collaboration with the China Electronics Standardization Institute and 16 key enterprises. This standard aims to guide companies in selecting high-quality AI models.

The evaluation criteria, tailored to meet the demands of key industries, assess six key aspects: functionality, accuracy, reliability, safety, interactivity, and applicability. This comprehensive evaluation framework considers a broad spectrum of industry scenarios, including telecommunications, transportation, energy, and manufacturing.
