'Boys will be boys': White House Comments on Musk-Navarro Tariff Dispute
During a recent exchange, Elon Musk referred to one of U.S. President Donald Trump's top economic aides as a "moron," prompting the White House to state on Tuesday that "boys will be boys."

Musk and Peter Navarro, a long-time Trump trade advisor, have been publicly clashing over Trump's decision to impose extensive tariffs on a majority of the nation's trading partners. This action has led to a market decline and raised concerns among analysts about the potential for a recession in the United States.

"Look, these are obviously two individuals who have very different views on trade and on tariffs," White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt commented. "Boys will be boys, and we will let their public sparring continue."

On Monday, during an appearance on CNBC, Navarro rejected Musk's advocacy for "zero tariffs" between the U.S. and Europe, labeling the billionaire and Tesla CEO a "car assembler" who is dependent on imported parts. He expressed a preference for those components to be produced domestically.

Responding to a video clip of Navarro's interview, Musk responded, "Navarro is truly a moron. What he says here is demonstrably false. Tesla has the most American-made cars. Navarro is dumber than a sack of bricks."

Navarro is often recognized as the mastermind behind Trump's extensive tariff strategy, which aims to bolster U.S. manufacturing and enhance national security. However, the policy has adversely affected markets and introduced uncertainties into global supply chains.

When asked about the conflict between the advisors, Leavitt suggested that the public nature of the disagreement demonstrated the Trump administration's commitment to transparency and its openness to diverse viewpoints.
