Australia’s Representative to the US Removes Posts Criticizing Trump
The president-elect had previously warned that Ambassador Kevin Rudd might not last long in his position if he is “hostile.”

Canberra’s ambassador to the US and former Australian Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd, has erased all social media posts and articles from his website that criticized Donald Trump following the Republican's victory in this week's US presidential election.

In the past, Rudd referred to Trump as “the most destructive president in history” and labeled him a “traitor of the West,” accusing him of “dragging America and democracy through the mud.”

However, after Trump's win, Rudd seemed to adopt a different tone and congratulated the president-elect in a post on X. He expressed, “Australians and Americans are long-standing friends, partners and allies,” adding that “Australia looks forward to working closely with President Trump and his Administration on the challenges and opportunities that our two great democracies and the wider world will face in the years ahead.”

Rudd’s office issued a statement regarding the removal of his previous criticisms of Trump, explaining it was done “out of respect for the office of the President of the United States.” The statement clarified that such comments were made while Rudd led an independent US-based think tank and often commented on American politics.

The statement further noted that Rudd deleted his disparaging remarks about Trump to “eliminate the possibility of such comments being misconstrued as reflecting his positions as Ambassador and, by extension, the views of the Australian Government.” It emphasized that “Rudd looks forward to working with President Trump and his team to continue strengthening the US-Australia alliance.”

Earlier this year, Trump responded to some of Rudd's remarks by telling the UK's Nigel Farage that he had heard the Australian ambassador was “a little bit nasty” and “not the brightest bulb.” Trump also warned, “If he’s at all hostile, he will not be there long.”

In a similar vein, UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy, who had previously described Trump as a “woman-hating, neo-Nazi sympathizing sociopath,” has also seemingly shifted his stance. He congratulated the president-elect on his victory and stated that the British government is looking forward to collaborating with him.
