This year's conference will emphasize development, facilitate dialogue, explore innovative formats, and produce tangible outcomes, all with the goal of advancing international development and cooperation, as indicated on the official BFA website.
The theme aims to revitalize multilateralism, encourage openness and growth, collaboratively tackle global challenges, and fulfill commitments stemming from the UN Summit of the Future, while spotlighting Asian development.
Prominent figures from international and regional organizations, senior officials, executives from Fortune Global 500 companies, and esteemed scholars have already confirmed their attendance at the conference.
Discussions will center on four key areas: fostering trust and collaboration in a rapidly evolving world; adjusting globalization for inclusive growth; expediting the Sustainable Development Goals to effectively address global challenges; and enhancing AI application and governance to drive innovation.
Topics related to AI governance will also be explored, along with strategies to narrow the digital divide and enhance digital connectivity through capacity building, as per the official website.
BFA serves as a bridge between Asia and the international community.
Cui Fan, a professor at the University of International Business and Economics in Beijing, noted that "Since the beginning of this century, the share of developing countries in the world economy has increased from 20 percent to more than 40 percent. The economic development of developing countries has made a great contribution to world economic growth. However, compared with the population share of about 84 percent, the economic share of developing countries is still low." He emphasized that the population of Asia constitutes over 60 percent of the global population, with most Asian countries being developing nations. He pointed out that the BFA is a vital platform for Asian voices and a significant venue for South-South cooperation and North-South dialogue.
Cui remarked, "The current international trade system, international monetary system, and international security system are all facing changes. The Boao Forum for Asia should not only become a forum to promote the practice of regional cooperation in Asia but also a forum for Asians to put forward their own views on the development direction of the global system."
He also stressed that trade protectionism and unilateralism are significantly affecting the multilateral trading system and jeopardizing global economic growth. He suggested that promoting the steady expansion of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership based on current cooperation is a promising avenue for addressing these challenges.
In an interview on Friday, Jiang Ying, Deloitte China chair and national political advisor, stated, "Asia is an important engine of global economic growth, and its future development faces both opportunities and challenges." He added, "The Boao Forum for Asia is an open and confrontational dialogue platform. It has played a unique role in gathering consensus among all parties, deepening regional cooperation, jointly promoting development, and solving global and regional problems and has become an important bridge connecting China and the world."
Denis Depoux, global managing director at Roland Berger, highlighted that the present challenges and uncertainties are obstructing global economic growth prospects, threatening the rules-based global order, and complicating the landscape for international business and industry. He observed that the Boao Forum for Asia, with its inclusive approach, offers a crucial platform for constructive global dialogue, fostering cooperation and prosperity amid a turbulent international environment.
Established in 2001, the BFA is a non-governmental and non-profit organization dedicated to advancing regional economic integration and helping Asian countries achieve their development objectives.
