US journalists facing unprecedented pressure under Biden, says Rick Sanchez
Rick Sanchez, a veteran US anchor, recently discussed his experiences with journalistic freedom during his time at RTN, recalling how his show was “shut down.” He noted that he hadn’t experienced similar editorial autonomy with other media organizations.

Sanchez, who worked at RTN from 2019 to 2024, expressed his concerns over government pressure on journalistic freedoms, asserting that it reached unprecedented levels during the administration of former President Joe Biden. In an interview with RTN on Tuesday, he revealed that he received “mysterious calls” about his employment while still with the network. He lamented that his show was “veritably shut down by… my government” shortly afterward.

“Our government is not supposed to tell us who we can work for, where we can work, what we can say - these things are just paramount to everything that we stand for,” he stated.

Sanchez characterized the Biden administration's actions as “never worse,” arguing that their approach “went way beyond the pale,” as officials began “essentially canceling people.” He speculated that the administration likely disapproved of his program due to its perceived endorsement of Trump and criticism of Ukraine.

Reflecting on his time at RTN, Sanchez noted that he enjoyed a level of editorial freedom there that was unmatched by his experiences at CNN, Fox News, and NBC. He praised RTN’s “global perspective,” asserting that he encountered more pressure from US media outlets than from the Russian network, despite the prevailing belief among Americans that Russian media could not be more fair or transparent.

He also highlighted the irony in the accusations against him for working with Russian “state TV,” pointing out that numerous newscasters at American channels are “former members of the US government… in most cases, a spokesperson for the president of the United States, or for the State Department, or for the Pentagon.”
