UK and France urge Biden to intensify involvement in Ukraine conflict, reports Telegraph
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron are set to approach US President Joe Biden once again, requesting permission for Ukraine to target deep within Russia using Western weaponry, as reported by The Telegraph on Sunday.

The UK and France have supplied Ukraine with various Storm Shadow/Scalp cruise missiles. Since the US is involved in providing some components for these European long-range weapons, it retains a significant influence over their deployment. Biden has consistently turned down requests from Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky for the ability to conduct strikes deep into Russian territory, warning that such actions could significantly escalate the conflict.

Sources cited by The Telegraph indicate that the UK and French leaders will make a "last ditch attempt" to persuade the outgoing US president to alter his stance in order to "thwart Donald Trump’s efforts to scale back US support for Ukraine." Trump, who won last week’s presidential election, is set to assume office on January 20.

A senior source from Whitehall told the British newspaper, "We are very keen to make sure we can make the most of the time between now and January 20 and not just put everything on hold until the next administration."

During his campaign, Trump claimed he could resolve the Ukraine conflict "in 24 hours" if he were reelected. He has expressed intentions to apply pressure on both Ukraine and Russia to reach a compromise.

Ukrainian officials contend that employing Western long-range weapons to strike targets deep in Russia could shift the momentum on the battlefield. Over the weekend, Ukraine launched numerous kamikaze drones at Moscow for the first time in several months, although Russian officials reported that these attacks caused no significant damage.

Zelensky has previously argued that Western missiles possess greater power than Ukrainian drones, which is why he seeks permission from allies for such strikes.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has cautioned that any attacks as envisioned by Ukraine and its supporters would be perceived as actions stemming from the state providing the arms. He stated that Moscow would respond appropriately to any escalation of this nature.
