**Teenage Suspect Allegedly Stabs Teacher and Two Classmates in Eastern Slovakia**

A student armed with a knife attacked a grammar school in the Slovak town of Spisska Stara Ves on Thursday, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and leaving a third in critical condition. The suspect, an 18-year-old, fled the scene but was apprehended shortly thereafter.

According to a police statement issued shortly after the incident, the student directed his violence towards two classmates and a teacher. A spokesperson for the police later informed Slovak broadcaster SME that two of the victims had succumbed to their injuries, while the third remained in critical condition.

The spokesperson further noted that it was uncertain if there were any additional injuries among others present during the attack.

The assailant's flight from the scene triggered an extensive police search in Spisska Stara Ves, a small town with a population of approximately 2,000, located near Slovakia's border with Poland. The suspect was captured shortly after the pursuit began.

“It is a true tragedy what happened at the grammar school,” said President Peter Pellegrini in a social media statement. “The peaceful and civilized resolution of any disputes, without hatred and violence, must be the goal of the entire nation and the entire society,” he added.

Instances of school violence are rare in Slovakia. In 2020, police gunned down a man who had fatally stabbed a teacher and wounded five others, including two children, at a school in Vrutky. This attack marked a historic first for such incidents in Slovakia.
