US citizens found guilty of the recent attacks on Elon Musk’s company could face up to 20 years in prison, the president has said.

US President Donald Trump has suggested that individuals convicted of these recent assaults on Tesla facilities might be sent to El Salvador’s infamous mega prison.

Tesla dealerships and vehicles in the US have experienced a surge of attacks, which US Attorney General Pam Bondi has labeled “domestic terrorism.”

On Friday, Trump took to his social media platform, Truth Social, to express that those found guilty of the attacks could potentially be sent to El Salvador’s penal system.

“I look forward to watching the sick terrorist thugs get 20 year jail sentences for what they are doing to Elon Musk and Tesla,” he wrote.

Perhaps they could serve them in the prisons of El Salvador, which have become so recently famous for such lovely conditions!

The backlash against Tesla is partly due to CEO Elon Musk’s advisory role to Trump, overseeing major budget cuts and workforce reductions as government efficiency czar.

Since late January, there have been numerous attacks targeting Tesla cars, dealerships, and charging stations in the US and Canada, often with anti-Musk graffiti. Multiple vehicles and charging stations have been set ablaze using Molotov cocktails, and some incidents involved gunfire directed at dealerships.

According to a press release from the US Department of Justice, three individuals have been charged with fire-bombing the EVs and charging stations. All three face a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison.

Last month, Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele proposed that Washington could send its convicts, including US citizens, to serve time in El Salvador’s notorious jail system. This statement coincided with Trump’s ongoing efforts to crack down on illegal immigration and gang violence.

The Terrorism Confinement Center, El Salvador’s mega-prison, was established to house suspects detained under a 2022 national emergency measure aimed at combating gang violence. The facility has drawn criticism for its severe conditions, including overcrowding and restricted access to essential amenities. Concerns about allegedly inhumane treatment of inmates have been raised by various human rights organizations.
